Diamond fold card templates

April 2nd, 2010 by David J

I have created templates for two diamond fold cards with a finished size of 100mm x 100mm  (4 x 4  inches) when folded flat. Template 1 has diamond size of 100mm (4 inches) square. Template 2 has more folds and a diamond size of 70mm (2¾ inches) square. Both templates would be easy to scale up if required.

Diamond fold card template 1.

I have used template 1 with the PinBroidery MM-4 Mini Tulips Pattern for the card above. It is stitched on white card and mounted on the diamond fold card with sticky fixers.

The card is made from a sheet of card 200mm x 200mm (8 inches x 8 inches). Mark the edges at 100mm (4 inch) intervals. Cut away the bottom-right square. Score the dotted lines. The blue dotted lines are valley folds and the red dotted lines are mountain folds when viewed from the front. The finished card will measure 100mm (4 inches) square when folded flat.

Diamond fold card template 2.

I was inspired to write this post about diamond fold templates when I saw Patsy’s beautiful Easter Diamond card in the Form-A-Lines forum gallery. It is shown above. Patsy used the free Easter egg pattern from this website. She reduced the pattern size to 65% to fit the diamond shape. Template 2 is similar to the one used by Patsy.

The card is made from a sheet of card 300mm x 100mm (12 inches x 4 inches). Mark the long edges at 50mm (2 inch) intervals. Score the dotted lines. The blue dotted lines are valley folds and the red dotted lines are mountain folds when viewed from the front. The finished card will measure 100mm (4 inches) square when folded flat.

Download the diamond fold card templates

The templates are in a PDF file and you will need Adobe Reader to view and print them. Adobe Reader software can be downloaded free of charge from the Adobe website.

Free Heart Circle curve stitching pattern added at Pinbroidery

January 29th, 2010 by David J

An attractive curve stitching design that creates a heart within a circle has been added to the free pattern section of the Pinbroidery website. The illustration shows the design stitched in confetti pink thread. The pattern size is 120 mm x 120 mm (4¾ x 4¾ inches).

The design is a scaled down version of a mathematical pattern that I created for my String Art Fun website. If you are interested in creating pictures with nails and string then you can download the free string art heart circle pattern there.

Please let me have your thoughts on this geometric design. Is this the kind of design you are interested in? Would you like to see more? Let us know in a comment to this blog.

Mini Christmas stitching patterns released at Pinbroidery

October 12th, 2009 by David J

Following customer feedback a set of six mini Christmas prick and stitch patterns have been released at the Pinbroidery web site. The size of these patterns is 88 mm x 114 mm (3.5 x 4.5 inches). These mini patterns use sections of the larger Value Pack 3 Christmas patterns also available at Pinbroidery. They feature bells, candles, Happy Christmas, a fur tree, a poinsettia and a sleigh. These patterns make beautiful cards for the Christmas season.

mini Christmas designs

If you want to try this size of pattern before you buy there are two free mini stitching patterns in the free section of the Pinbroidery web site. These are a reworking of the free flower corners and star border patterns.

I chose the 88 mm x 114 mm size because blank double-fold cards of this size are readily available in the UK from suppliers such as Craft Creations.

As mentioned in my post about the release of the mini flower patterns, a lot of customers have asked me to design smaller versions of the square Pinbroidery patterns. When a customer asked for much smaller cards I realised that this could be achieved by taking elements of the larger design without reducing them. An experiment on the two free Pinbroidery patterns showed that this was possible so I moved on to the William Morris inspired flower designs followed by the mini Christmas designs.

Please let me know what you think about this smaller size of pattern.

Christmas prick and stitch patterns added at Pinbroidery

August 11th, 2009 by David J

Six Christmas card designs have been added to the pattern collection at the Pinbroidery web site. They feature bells, candles, holly with mistletoe, a fur tree, a poinsettia and a sleigh.

The patterns are supplied in two sizes; 144 x 144 mm (5.65 x 5.65 inches) and 120 x 120 mm (4.75 x 4.75 inches). This gives you the flexibility to choose the size that suits your style of card making and to comply with any postal regulations on large sizes of cards.

The designs were inspired by a mixture of traditional and Victorian Christmas cards and have been given a modern twist. Some of the patterns contain a lot of detail and will take a while to stitch whilst others have less so should be quicker to finish.
